A resolution demanding the Japanese government’s formal acknowledgment of responsibility and an apology for the Japanese Military “Comfort Women” issue. Introduced by U.S. Representative Michael M. Honda, it was passed unanimously by the U.S. House of Representatives on July 30, 2007. The resolution defines the “Comfort Women” system as the largest and most unprecedented human trafficking case of the 20th century and recommends that the Japanese government issue a formal apology, accept responsibility, and provide historical education on the “Comfort Women” issue. While not legally binding, the resolution is significant in raising international awareness of the “Comfort Women” issue.
