The Convention was preceded by the 1904 International Agreement for the Suppression of “White Slave Traffic” and the International Convention for the Suppression of the White Slave Traffic adopted in 1910. The 1921 Convention was in response to the global problem of international trafficking of women and children for forced labor and prostitution, and sought to codify the collective rights of children and women in international human rights law.
